Training this week

Monday-Took a rest day, it was gorgeous out and I just did house chores, such as raking

Tuesday-Tank and I ran 7 miles on the Turnagain Arm Trail. It was an awesome day out. It was about 65 degrees and super sunny. Tank and I had a good time. We ran from Mchugh Trailhead torwards Windy corner and back. I think it took about 45 mins.

Wednesday-Tank and I ran the saddle in Eagle River and also Mile High. Together the distance was probably 4-5 miles and about 3000 feet of elevation gain. The legs were tired after two hard hill days running. However I'm feeling much stronger than last year at this time. All the cross country skiing has made me legs in much better shape.

Total miles and time 4.5 and 3000 feet elevation gain and about 40-45 mins.

Thursday-I finally got out on the road bike. The weather wasn't that great, however it felt good to get out on the bike for a change. I rode from my house on 65th and Elmore to Kindcaid and back via the coastal trail and the Chester creek trail. The coastal trail was nice and the view across the inlet was great. I was out for about 1.75 hours. I think the distance was 35-40 miles. The legs were tired after hammering the last 20 mins of the ride into the wind.

Mchugh Peak

On Sunday morning Katie, Gina, Tank and I decieded to hike Mchugh Peak again (for me the second time in three days) The morning was nice and sunny and the hike was great. It's nice to be able to hike without snow now (only on south facing mountains). On the way up we saw 7 dall sheep. The only bad part of the hike was the sucide peaks. The weather torwards the east was socked in. The legs felt good and I didn't really get too tired until we hit the scree field. Total time and distance was about 3.5 hours and 6-7 miles and 3500 feet of elevation gain.

Ironman trialthon

So I'm new to this blogging thing. I'm going to try to keep a blog in the process of training for my first ironman. Why do a ironman? I don't know but I have always wanted to do one. I think I'm training for one to prove that I'm officially no longer a couch potato. Below is training for the last few days.

Thursday went hiking along the Turnagain Arm. Ken, Nick, and myself went up Mchugh Peak. It was a windy day. The trail starts at the Mchugh Creek parking lot and climbs up to Mchugh peak. Total elevation gain I believe is 4000 feet in about 3.5 miles. The hike felt good. The legs were a little tired from running the day before but warmed up well. On the hike got to see 3 dall sheep and 2 moose. Tank decided to chase the sheep. It was kind of funny watching Tank try to catch animals that live in mtns and are use to climbing.

Total miles 7-4000 feet elevation gain, and 2.5 hrs

Easy day legs were tired from the hike yesterday. Rode the road bike for 35 mins on the trainer to stretch the legs then I got out and ran 3.5 miles around the neighborhood. The running felt good and the legs warmed up well

Total miles 3.5 miles running and 10 miles biking total time 1.0 hr

Tank and I ran on the Turnagain Arm Trail. The view was amazing. The turnagain arm trail gains moderate elevation while hugging the turnagain arm. The view of the Kenai mtns is amazing. I ran from the Potters trail head to Mchugh Creek trail head and back. The only excitement was Tank almost getting into a porcupine. Other than that the run was a good time to think and enjoy the sun.

Total run time 50 mins and 6.5 miles

New to this

Hey I'm starting this blog to keep a training log and also keep friends and family up to date on what is going on with my life in Alaska.
